WHY I'M RUNNING
My name is Zoe Midyett. I’m running to represent you in Oklahoma’s US Congressional District 3. I am a native southwesterner and small business owner with a passion for agriculture. Over the past few years, I’ve grown real tired of the constant lip service and lack of action that Oklahomans receive from our leaders. I’m sure you all have too. I hear all the time from my community they think their leadership isn’t working for them anymore. Just like me, they are worried about the direction our country has taken. And you know what? Enough is enough. Our voices still matter.
The core responsibility of our elected officials is to listen to us and then represent our voices, even if it means doing the hard stuff. I promise to always listen and to never talk at you. Won’t that be refreshing from an elected official for a change? So I’m running for Congress to better represent, in a non-partisan way, a population that America’s leaders are leaving behind: rural Americans and farmers just like me, my family, friends and neighbors. And you.
Another thing I hear is how our leaders in Washington seem to have no transparency anymore. What do they have to hide? And who do they think they work for anyway? If you elect me, I promise to visit with as many of you as possible to not only hear what issues are important to you, but so that I can tell you what Washington is doing to work for you.
Despite the promises being made by countless politicians, our infrastructure remains outdated and dysfunctional, our healthcare system is fragile and on the brink of collapse, and our school systems are in desperate need of funding and faculty.
These core issues are chronically ignored by our current leadership, and we MUST fight to bring them to the forefront of the national discussion. My opposition has been in office for far too long unopposed. Oklahoma is not being represented to the fullest when there is no clean debate. And let me clear here. For the past 3 ½ years,my opponent has fallen in lock-step with the current administration while they undermine our democracy by attempting to silence our voices and peel away at our rights. But if you elect me to be your US Congresswoman, I promise to take your voice, loud and clear, with me to Washington.
As your Congresswoman, I will bring a willingness to listen to the people who voted for me. My legislative priorities will reflect the needs of my district and districts like it. I will put an end to partisan voting that is leaving us behind. In a short amount of time, we have pulled together a grassroots movement of concerned Oklahomans. We still believe in equality in education and a fair health care system, among other things. Those things are central to the way of life we value most.
What I lack in political experience, I make up for with Oklahoma compassion, western roots, and insight into Midwestern values. If elected, I promise to take my life experiences and my passion for service to others, as well as your voices, to Washington for new leadership. I will deliver results for all of us again. As your Congresswoman, I will bring a willingness to listen to the people who voted for me. My legislative priorities will reflect the needs of my district and districts like it. I will put an end to partisan voting that is leaving us behind.
When elected, I plan to propose a comprehensive infrastructure reform that will fund projects to improve transportation, healthcare access, and broadband access in rural areas all across America. I cannot stand idly by as our leaders continue to let our communities decay and our infrastructure crumble. Together, we must fight for better representation, and that starts by electing leaders who care. Together, we can make rural America flourish!
